E Cape councillor gets double pay - Cope

Johannesburg - A Matatiele councillor was fraudulently receiving two salaries for two top positions in the Eastern Cape, said the Congress of the People on Thursday.
Spokesperson Nkosifikile Gqomo said Sandile Sello, regional chairperson of the African National Congress was receiving a salary as a full-time portfolio head in the Matatiele local municipality as well as for his role as a full-time portfolio head in Alfred Nzo district municipality.
Cope claimed Sello had been officially sworn in as a member of the mayoral committee in Alfred Nzo despite his position at Matatiele.
Municipal Manager of Matatiele Tshepang Nakin denied any knowledge of this.
"What we know is that he was appointed to be a representative of the Matatiele local municipality at the Alfred Nzo district municipality," he said.
"We were not told of him being a full-time employee there."
The office of the Local Government MEC Mlibo Qoboshiane also denied having any knowledge of this.
"If this information is presented to us, we shall investigate, " said Qoboshiane's spokesperson, Mvusi Sicwetsha.
