Johannesburg - A man and a woman have been arrested for killing an elderly man and robbing him in Uitenhage, Eastern Cape police said on Wednesday.

Lieutenant Colonel Priscilla Naidu said the 59-year-old man was found in an open field behind the Governor Hotel on Sunday night.

He had been stabbed behind his ear, in his ribs and under his arm.

His takkies and cellphone had been taken, but Naidu said the motive for the murder could not be disclosed.

The pair were arrested on Monday and would appear in the Uitenhage Magistrates' Court on Thursday, she said.
