Johannesburg - A hospital in Ncgobo in the Eastern Cape will receive R47m to upgrade its facilities, the provincial department of health said on Monday.
"The MEC [Sicelo Gqobane] made a surprise visit to Mjanyana hospital in Ngcobo... he announced that R47m would be given to rebuild the hospital," spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo said.
"The money was prompted by complaints from traditional leaders to President Zuma about the dilapidated infrastructure," he said.
About R7m would be set aside for the design of the new hospital. Community members were being consulted on whether a new structure should be built in the same location or at a location closer to villages in the area.
In April, the department announced it would spend R1.9bn in renovating hospitals and building clinics in the province.
