Johannesburg - A man has been arrested in connection with the abduction of his teenage ex-girlfriend and the murder of a love rival, Eastern Cape police said on Monday.

Captain Jackson Manatha said the 26-year-old man went to the homestead of his former girlfriend, aged 16, in Ndabakazi Village, Butterworth last Saturday.

He found her watching television with her older sister.

"He was armed with a knife and he took the 16-year-old girl and left."

On Sunday, the man went to another area in the village and stabbed a man, aged 48, to death.

"It is rumoured he [the alleged murderer] suspected the 48-year-old man to be dating the 16 year old."

Manatha said that the man was then traced and arrested.

He is due to appear in court on Tuesday.

The abducted teenager had returned to her family.

"She is fine," said Manatha.
