Eastern Cape officials killed in crash

Johannesburg - Two health department officials were killed in a road accident in Mount Fletcher in the Eastern Cape, the department said on Tuesday.

"The officials were on duty travelling from Queenstown to Mount Fletcher when the accident occurred," said spokesperson Sizwe Kupelo.

He said their vehicle collided with a tractor which had didn't have any lights on, before colliding with another vehicle in oncoming traffic on Monday night.

"The driver of the unroadworthy tractor has since been arrested."

The Jaws of Life was used to free the bodies from the wreckage.

"Health MEC Sicelo Gqobana has learnt the death of the officials with shock and sent heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased."

The officials, an administrator and a procurement manager, were attached to Taylor Bequest Hospital in Mount Fletcher.
