Durban - Eight people, including a baby, were killed when a minibus taxi and a heavy goods truck collided on the R612 near the R617 junction in Bulwer, central KwaZulu-Natal, on Thursday.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said that an infant was among those killed in the horror crash.

“Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found absolute carnage.

"After triaging the wounded, they found that eight people had died and among them was a small baby. Two people were in a critical condition while seven sustained serious injuries,” he said.

“Paramedics from various services worked fervently at the scene to stabilise the injured, before they transported them to various hospitals in Pietermaritzburg for the care that they required,” Botha added.

He said that the cause of the crash was unclear, but that police were at the scene investigating.

“The cause of the accident and preceding events is still speculative and will remain a subject for police investigation and comment,” he said.
