Ekurhuleni takes day off

2012-04-25 19:16

Johannesburg - The Ekurhuleni municipality has decided to give itself the day off on Monday.

"To avoid the disruption of service delivery and the subsequent low turnout at the service points April 30, 2012, has been declared a municipal holiday," said spokesman Justice Mohale on Wednesday.

"The day will automatically be deducted from employees' annual leave."

Mohale said the municipality took into consideration that Monday fell between two national holidays (April 27 and May 1), and a high number of employees had applied for leave on the day.

"Administrative offices, libraries, selected rates halls, pay points, non-essential and non-emergency services will not be operational on the day," Mohale said.

Libraries would also be closed on Saturday, April 28.

Mohale, however, said emergency services, water and electricity services, and the manning of some pay points would not be affected by the closure.

It is shocking that a local authority such as Ekhurhuleni Metro Council who is a known under-achiever is creating a situation whereby they deny the taxpayers another day of service. The creation of these artificial long weekends in the public sector is a big contributor to poor productivity and should be stopped.

We should all be so grateful that emergency services will be up and running ???

It takes them 48 hours on a normal day to respond to a burst water pipe. Them poor okes really need a day off because they are overworked. Shame on you, BLADDY SUURSTOF DIEWE!!!

"To avoid the disruption of service delivery and the subsequent low turnout at the service points April 30, 2012, has been declared a municipal holiday," said spokesman Justice Mohale on Wednesday. Didnt know they had the power to "declare" a holiday... Seeing that we pay the salary of these idiots. I'm sure my boss would not take it kindly if i declare some days as holidays at such short notice..

If you want the day off, then you take annual leave, not that they do terribly much anyhow

  • naeem.essop - 2012-04-25 20:28

Took me 6 f***king weeks to get a learners appointment for this date and now the f***king morons want to take the day off?? WTF??!

  • Joe - 2012-04-25 23:38

Maybe they should give themselves the whole year off with unpaid leave? With the savings willing and able contractors can be employed.

Useless lot in any case, they don't work 90% of the time in the week as well. I was without water for 4 days because of a new water meter that the installed, doesn't even help that you phoned. Only got fixed once I spoke to a white lady.

Should read: Ekurhuleni takes another day off. They don't work half the time anyway.
