Johannesburg - A 65-year-old man was strangled at a hospital in Matlala on Thursday, Limpopo police said.

Lieutenant Colonel Ronel Otto said a 34-year-old man allegedly strangled the old man and also bit him several times on the stomach, in the early hours of Thursday.

Otto said police and paramedics took the 34-year-old man to the WF Knobel Hospital on Wednesday, after they were called to a school about a suspected mentally ill man causing a disturbance.

"He was taken to the WF Knobel Hospital and apparently admitted to the same ward as the deceased, Mr Elias Makololo of Ga-Rapitsi village, Moletji," she said.

She said the man was arrested for murder and was expected to appear in the Matlala Periodical District Court later on Thursday.

Limpopo health spokesperson Phuti Seloba said the man had been admitted at the hospital for observation as a requirement.

Don't you think we need mantal health workers to evaluate such patients, or can this not be attributed to hospital neglegence by failure to isolate this patient having history of causing disturbance.just thinking.
