Johannesburg - Allegations of fraud against Limpopo Premier Cassel Mathale's wife Mokgadi Kgohloane are being investigated, police said on Thursday.
Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi said the probe related to claims that a company of which she was a director was mining illegally in Maake, Tzaneen, in Limpopo.
The company Blue Platinum Venture trades under the name of Bathlabine Brickworks.
Mulaudzi said the police and the Hawks were investigating. Other directors of the company were also being probed.
The company was allegedly mining with an expired licence and without an authorised environmental management plan.
Kgohloane could not be reached for comment.
Last year, the similarly named Blue Platinum Venture 16, owned by Kgohloane and trading as Batlhanine Brick Yard, in Ga-Rakoma village, outside Tzaneen, was closed by the mineral resources department.
This was after accusations surfaced that the company had kept secret the death of a worker.
