Employee injured in hospital fire
Johannesburg – A case of arson has been opened into a fire in the linen room at Kimberley State Hospital, Northern Cape police said on Wednesday.
"We cannot confirm that the fire is linked to the current (public servant's) strike, but a case of arson has been opened," said Lieutenant-Colonel Mashay Gamieldien.
The fire broke out in a linen room on the fourth floor at about 18:30 on Tuesday night and patients on the fourth and fifth floor were evacuated.
A hospital employee was treated for smoke inhalation, but there were no other injuries and minimal damage to property.
"We cannot confirm the cause of the fire. We are waiting for forensic investigators to arrive from Pretoria," said Gamieldien.
No arrests had been made, she said.
