Groblersdal - A department of water affairs and forestry official was shot dead in a road rage incident following a three-car pile-up on Saturday night.
Simon Mabena (28) of Waterval in Siyabuswa, Mpumalanga, lost control of his car and collided with two oncoming cars along the main road in Tafelkop near Groblersdal at about 20:00.
"The drivers of the three vehicles exchanged heated words and the victim was shot in the left side of his chest," said police spokesperson Mohale Ramatseba on Monday.
Mabena was rushed to Groblersdal hospital where he was certified dead on arrival.
All the three cars were seriously damaged and police said it was a miracle that no one was injured in the accident.
A 43-year-old man has been arrested for the shooting and is expected to appear before the Motetema magistrates' court soon.
