Escaped prisoners still on the run

2010-10-05 11:14
Musina - Six prisoners who escaped from the Musina police cells on Monday have not yet been found, Limpopo police said on Tuesday.

"We are getting information and are following leads," said Lieutenant Mohale Ramatseba.

Police have not determined who helped the prisoners escape, or explained why the police officers on duty at the time did not attempt to stop them.

The six, all from Zimbabwe, sawed through iron cell bars after 01:00 on Monday.

"We do not know how they got the saw," said Ramatseba.

Four of them were awaiting trial prisoners, accused of crimes ranging from murder to robbery, and two others were convicted and sentenced on Friday for theft, housebreaking and possession of an unlicensed firearm.
