Cape Town - Eskom has scrapped its R500m plans to upgrade its headquarters at Megawatt Park in Johannesburg.

According to the Sunday Times, the parastatal quietly cancelled its plans by posting notices in a local newspaper and on their website stating that the tender had been cancelled.

News broke recently that the parastatal planned to not only revamp and redecorate offices but also to install emergency generators for use in the event of a power failure.

Proposed upgrades

The Sunday Times earlier reported that tender documents showed that proposed upgrades included R3m for a VIP entrance and offices; R608 000 for curtaining; air conditioning, heating and ventilation of R81m; uninterrupted power supply systems for R6.7m; plus timber deck walkways, landscaping, the revamping of cafes, bicycle parking racks and toilet cubicles with custom-designed graphic wallpaper among others.
