Bethlehem- Five people were killed in a collision between a truck and a car on the N5 near Bethlehem in the Free State on Tuesday morning, paramedics said.

ER24 spokesperson Russell Meiring said that when paramedics arrived at the scene they found both the truck and the car alight.

Meiring said one of the vehicles was transporting soccer players but could not confirm that this was the accident in which Free State Stars striker Richard Henyekane was killed

He said that once the local fire fighting services had extinguished the flames the burnt bodies of three men and two women were found in the car.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries.

He said the cause of the collision was not known, but both vehicles were found on the right-hand side of the road.

The OFM radio station reported that the accident took place on the N5 between Bethlehem and the town of Kestell.
