Ex-political leader in court for murder plot

2012-03-30 11:42
Cape Town - A former Western Cape Freedom Front Plus youth leader appeared in the Worcester Magistrate's Court on accusations of conspiring to kill her estranged husband, it was reported on Friday.

Nell-Marie Cooke, 30, appeared on Thursday and her case was postponed to April 19 for further investigation, the Cape Times reported.

She allegedly plotted with her gardener and his friend to murder her 31-year-old husband Martin, whom she is now divorcing.

Her husband apparently learned of the plot in February when he found a hand-written letter from an unknown person in his wife's letterbox. The letter writer was asking for money, apparently promised by Cooke for the murder of her husband.

Her co-accused had turned State witnesses and would testify against her.

According to the report, court proceedings were held in camera to protect their identities.
Cooke was out on R5 000 bail.
