Ex-soldiers helping at OR Tambo
Johannesburg - Several border posts have increased their working hours to accommodate the large number of travellers during the festive season, the home affairs department said on Thursday.
Between December 1 and 22, 2.3 million people had entered and left the country, spokesperson Ronnie Mamoepa said.
"In anticipation of increased traveller volumes, an additional 154 immigration officers have also been deployed to the Maseru, Lebombo and Durban harbour ports of entry."
The Mahamba, Mananga and Jeppes Reef border posts into Swaziland would be open from 07:00 to 00:00, 07:00 to 20:00 and 07:00 to 22:00 respectively.
The Qachaa and Tellebridge border posts into Lesotho would open at 06:00 and close at 22:00. These times would be in effect from December 22 to 24.
The Rooyenshek border post into Lesotho would be open from 06:00 to 00:00 from December 22 to January 9.
Meanwhile 350 former SA National Defence Force officers had been trained in immigration services and started working at OR Tambo International Airport on Wednesday December 21.
