'Exhausted' Mbalula recuperating

2011-05-26 10:33

Johannesburg - Sports and Recreation Minister and ANC head of organising and campaigns Fikile Mbalula was monitored overnight in hospital after he collapsed during a Cabinet meeting, a spokesperson said on Thursday.

His programme would be eased up for a while to allow him time to rest, said ministerial spokesperson Pana Galane.

Galane said Mbalula updated his Facebook status on Wednesday night to explain that the problem was exhaustion.

The 40-year-old former ANC Youth League president and deputy police minister succumbed to "flu-like" symptoms, according to a government statement issued after his collapse on Wednesday.

Medical care was administered and he was admitted overnight for observation.

Rest

Part of his job in the ANC was to help run the party's campaign for last week's local government elections.

He was also involved in a vehicle accident earlier in May.

"He never rested after the elections," said Galane.

"We have been advised to give him some time to relax and not to overcrowd him with work."

He was scheduled to go in to the office on Thursday, but efforts would be made to "relax his programme".

Government spokesperson Jimmy Manyi said he spoke to Mbalula's doctor on Thursday morning and that all tests run on him had come back negative.

      MK007 - 2011-05-26 14:44

why does it always end up being a racial thing?? this seriously needs to stop. Fikile in my opinion is one of the better ministers

      Worldwise - 2011-05-26 15:16

One of the better ministers? Ha ha! When deputy minister of police he was embarrassed because he couldn't answer questions he should have known the answers to in parliament and they told him so. A flunky had to answer for him, and knew the answers. Big differenc between being a rabble rousing revolutionary and a government minister where they expect you to know the answers. Methinks he collapsed due to post election exhaustive partying?

  • Edgar Boehm - 2011-05-26 10:41

How can you reduce any of the cabinet's workload? Give them nothing to do at all?

      Nebkad - 2011-05-26 11:40

@Edgar Boehm - By doing less work than you normal would?!?

  • Zakhele - 2011-05-26 10:54

I am available to help in his absence and to be his PA on long-term basis. Seems to me the Minister has too much on his plate. Campaigning, Looking after Sports and Recreation. Accompany Malema to go apologize for his troubles with the powers that be. Mbalula, I am here brother. I also love the ANC just like you do. Delegate! Delegate! I suspect the next one to collapse is going to be Jackson Mthembu. You guys have too much on your plate. For God's sakes there are 30 million adults South Africans- learn to delegate. I now open the gate for brainless thugs to insult me!

      Felix - 2011-05-26 10:58

I would prefer you in some of these idiots positions. I enjoy most of your posts. I had to laugh at the 'too much on your plate.' You didn't excuse the pun :)

      Vela Stardust - 2011-05-26 11:18

Shame for them. They are not able to keep up with the madam.

      Thor - 2011-05-26 11:24

HAHA Yes they all have to much on their plates at all the events they go to at tax payers expence. In all seriousness I could agree if I saw some results from the guys but alas none. As for delegation that will imply they have to share all the benefits dont think they will go for that. Oh yes almost forgot.... Love the ANC .... HAHAHAHAHA sorry to hear. Maybe one day your eyes will open and you will see. These guys do not care for anyone but themselves.

      Creeky - 2011-05-26 11:43

Only thing "SNOT-KOP" (Mabulula) has on his plate is a GENEROUS HELPING OF KFC! Max du Preez gave him the nic of SNOT-KOP when he was still in the YL... Fitting tho!

      kalabafazi@24.com - 2011-05-26 12:55

Thanks for clearing that up Zakhele. He is clearly nort able to cope with being the Sports Minister, campaign and hold Julias' hand. I think he should resign.

  • george - 2011-05-26 11:01

and this is the guy that wants to be the General Secretary of the ANC. Zuma and Mantashe's muti is working. He need to stop drinking whiskeys. he need to train hard and be fit. otherwise he cannot compete with old horses such Mantashe,Zuma and Vavi. Mbalula has the right attitude, he just need to look after his fitness.

    One to many parties...

  • Psalm - 2011-05-26 11:09

Dear Minister Mbalula I wish you a speedy recovery. There is some irony in a Minister of RECREATION collapsing from exhaustion... I note that you're exhausted from investing incredible time and energy in the ANC election campaign. Fine. But I do wish that you and all Ministers would show the same amount of zeal and dedication in serving SA, as opposed to reserving them for the ANC. If the Ministers of Education, Health, Human Settlement, Water Affairs, Energy, Police, Transport, Labour, Rural Development, Trade, Justice, Home Affairs, Public Enterprises and Public Works all collapsed of exhaustion from doing their work and doing it well, I would be moved with national pride. I would happily call on the government to put them and their families up in 5 star hotels for a week or two as a thank you. But, alas, such dedication and zeal are reserved for ANC campaigning. As the Ministers are happily withholding their zeal and dedication from their work and from those they allegedly serve, I will happily withhold my sense of national pride. Yours most sincerely, A South Africa Taxpayer (a.k.a. The Person Paying Your Salary)

      Zakhele - 2011-05-26 11:20

Psalm- You forgot the Minister of 'School Children Get Pregnant'- Child Grants = 'Social Development (= Socialism State= Cuba). In KZN alone 17000 of schoold children got pregnant- thus inceasing the KZN province child grant by plus R50 Million per year. There is more getting pregnant this year- thus another R60 million more to be budgeted for. The merry go round just go and on......It's FREE COUNTRY remember!

  • Justin - 2011-05-26 11:15

Ag shame, just goes to show what a bit of work can do to a minister, what a joke! shed 30 kgs, stay away from KFC get a bit fit and he'll be ok, i still remember the very same Mbalula telling the cops to loose weight and get fit, he should have taken his own advise. Ha Ha

      jowza - 2011-05-26 11:38

and how do you know that he collapsed from being overweight

  • Sho Fukamachi - 2011-05-26 11:16

The minister of sport is very good at downing cough medicine. Yup, that's it... That's all he good at!

      clark - 2011-05-26 15:35

      - No doubt he's also in a private ward , in a private hospital on tax payers money - sneaking the booze in like our Health minister did.

  • misspower - 2011-05-26 11:30

The poor guy is in hospital and all u racist bastards can think of is to beat the man while hes down..then u wonder y we will never hand over the power back to u white racist idiots! Speedy recovery Mbalula...

      Kenno - 2011-05-26 11:47

Hey Racist! If you could read, you will see that he is back at work (!) today. Save your racism for someone else, you half baked fool!

      maseratifitt - 2011-05-26 11:51

If someone can tell us what he has actually done to cause this exhaustion, we might understand. We didn't read in the news about anything spectacular that he has done for us. So we assume he was just partying too hard.

      BoneCollectR - 2011-05-26 12:13

Seconded. This is really sad. The DA (yes, the white party) cannot expect to get sufficient black votes, thanks to all you blatant racist bloggers. Black do have emotions too, in case you did not know. Even the ridiculous bloggers such as Poloyatonki, ANCangel, and others care to sympathize with whites when they are in ill-health (Joost articles ring a bell?), although they have made it clear they are anti-white. Forget politics and think about the individual. And you blame blacks for their fear of white (yes you got that right, DA) rule when all is clear what that will translate into?

      GinSA1 - 2011-05-26 12:22

BoneCollectR - of course they have emotion - it's called grave excitement - every time they acquire something by NOT working, NOT earning, just stealing from everybody else. That's about as far as the majority's emotions go.......

      clark - 2011-05-26 12:36

      - @ bonecollect - You pathetic idiot - Mbulala is one of the " shoot the whites" campaigners and we must feel sorry for him cause he's exhausted - GTFOH you retard.

      GT - 2011-05-26 13:27

This white guy agrees with you. Although you would be wise not to ignore the lifestyle that causes these things.

      Ntfutfuko - 2011-05-26 13:51

@Maseratifitt maybe you spectacles rather than something spectacular, the article explicitly says “ANC head of organising and campaigns” and that “Part of his job in the ANC was to help run the party's campaign for last week's local government elections”.

      Ntfutfuko - 2011-05-26 13:54
