Johannesburg - A prominent Rwandan exile who was shot in Johannesburg alleges his president was behind a plot to kill him, and that the leader has tried to kill other dissidents around the world.
Faustin Kayumba Nyamwasa, once a top military aide to Rwandan President Paul Kagame, spoke to The Associated Press in an exclusive interview on Thursday after finishing his testimony as a witness in the trial of six East Africans accused of attempted murder in his 2010 shooting.
Rwanda's government has denied involvement in an attack that left Nyamwasa with a bullet lodged at the base of his spine.
Nyamwasa says, "there's no doubt that my life has been threatened by the president of Rwanda".
Nyamwasa also accuses Kagame of fueling a rebellion in Congo, in order to keep Rwanda's giant, mineral-rich neighbour weak.
