Cape Town - Former Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) member of parliament Mpho Ramakatsa has launched an organisation to "free and redeem African folk" from oppression.

Ramakatsa, who was expelled from the EFF in April, described his new Save the Soul of Africa organisation as an international, non-partisan, non-governmental "African saviour".

In a statement issued at a media conference on Friday, Ramakatsa said Africans had come a long way, but the time had come for them to face their demons and "salvage their homo sapiens, dignity and freedom".

He said, in their drive to free Africans from their oppressors, the organisation wanted to eradicate corruption, dictatorship and inefficiency in African regimes.

"Ensuring much constricted accountability, coupled with firm penalties where there is a failure to deliver services to our African folks."

Along with Andile Mngxitama and Khanyisile Litchfield-Tshabalala, Ramakatsa was expelled from the EFF in April this year after being found guilty of convening unauthorised media briefings and failing to attend Parliament.

Mngxitama has also launched his own organisation, Black First Land First (BLF), while Litchfield-Tshabalala has joined the United Democratic Movement (UDM).
