Eye-gouging child rape suspect in court

2012-05-25 22:02

Johannesburg - A teenager accused of raping an 8-year-old girl and gouging out her left eye appeared in the Mtunzini Magistrate's Court on Friday.

"The case was adjourned to June 11 to give the State time to confirm a date to send the teenager for a mental assessment," National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson said.

"The accused is in a safe house and faces one charge of rape and two of attempted murder."

On 26 April, the 15-year-old was released into the custody of his parents following his last appearance in the Gingindlovu Periodical Court.

Last month, the girl was dragged into a sugarcane field near her home, where she was assaulted and raped.

The girl's left eye was gouged out of the socket and she was left bleeding profusely from both eyes. She had been walking home from school at the time. Her attacker also bit her neck.

The girl was treated at Ngwelezane Hospital.

The boy's grandmother alerted the police when people accused him of the crime.

It is alleged that the boy earlier attacked another girl at school.

The grandmother told the Witness newspaper she had reprimanded him when he was accused of raping another girl the same day.

"We did not reprimand him the second time, because we feared he would run away like he did when the first [victim's] family came to our house," she said.

Wow, "We didn't reprimand him the second time", that's really teaching right from wrong! No wonder society is in such a mess if that's the message being handed out :(

At the age of 15 he alledgedly raped/attacked a girl earlier the same day and was reprimanded for it. He raped a child of 8, bit her, successfully gouged one eye out and tried with the other eye and now: "The case was adjourned to June 11 to give the State time to confirm a date to send the teenager for a mental assessment," National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Natasha Ramkisson said." What on earth is there to assess? There is something fundamentally wrong with a system that protects the criminals more than it protects the victims. Even at the age of 15 if he is capable of thinking up and performing such a violent crime then he is capable of being tried and sentenced as an adult. There is no diminished responsibility because he is a minor. Crimes against children are reprehensible and that little girl is ONLY 8 years old. Stop protecting the criminals and stamp out crime!!!

This just show that criminals are known to people, including family but are protected by them. Then we ( me included) nail the cops a the first oppertunaty.

This boy is clearly a menace to society and releasing him into his parents' care will only make him worse, he might end up a serial killer. Which parent in their right mind, is scared to reprimand their kids in this day and age? Haai man, this old woman should also be arrested for bad parenting.

It's all been said before but seriously! They reprimanded the FIRST time?!?!?

This teenager is sick in his head and should be locked up for life to protect society.

avatar antin.herinck - May 26, 2012 at 13:18 Report comment "The grandmother told the Witness newspaper she had reprimanded him". Mother: absent / died of AIDS -father: unknown. Witness a typical outcome of your not a-typical teen's upbringing in SA: you rape and granny tells you're naughty. Then the token slap on the wrist by our Justice and, he can continue on his merry way. 'Will do many other crimes, a few aggravated robberies, a few farm-murders, at LEAST thirty more rapes, and then AIDS will catch up with him too. A life well-lived, by SAn standards.
