Free State residents in delivery protest

2011-11-28 10:21

Johannesburg - About 300 residents of Petrusburg near Bloemfontein in the Free State embarked on a protest over service delivery on Monday morning, police said.

They barricaded the N8 between Bloemfontein and Kimberley with stones and burning tyres, Petrusburg police spokesperson Warrant Officer Christo Carstens said.

"Commuters are unable to travel between Kimberley and Bloemfontein, and two buses were pulled off the road by protesters."

Residents wanted a response to a memorandum of demands they had delivered to the Letsameng municipality two weeks ago. They wanted the municipality to provide water and sanitation.

"Police officers are at the scene to monitor the situation and no arrests have been made."

The municipality was not immediately available for comment.

Its not easy to turn your back to a party that liberated us, when the hopes of liberation were all gone.

@Poly...I could agree with you, if you had in fact been liberated! This party has turned its back on you with all its fraud, corruption, cadre deployment, manipulation of the law courts, the info bill, etc etc. If its loyalty you want, get a dog. Unless, of course, you too have your nose in the trough?

@Polo ... do not deceive yourself ... liberation in South Africa was a two sided victory, one side black (no battlefield victories scored) the other side white that voted in referenda overwhelming to boot apartheid out of the door, never to allow it back in.

"Commuters are unable to travel between Kimberley and Bloemfontein, and two buses were pulled off the road by protesters." Um... surely that qualifies as a hijacking?
