Cape Town - A man who disappeared shortly before police planned to arrest him because of a false hijacking claim in Durban two weeks ago, has been found in a Cape Town hospital, Beeld reported on Tuesday.

Police spokesperson Captain Thulani Zwane told Beeld that Leon van Rensburg, 52, an IT specialist from New Germany, would be arrested in hospital and transported back to Durban.

The father of four first disappeared for about 60 hours two weeks ago, after he sent an SMS saying "Help, hijacked" to his daughter Megan, 15.

Last Wednesday, police were on the verge of arresting Van Rensburg for perjury when he disappeared again.

His family said last week they feared he would commit suicide, as his car had been found abandoned in the parking area of a Durban conference centre with a note inside.

Zwane said police investigators called Van Rensburg's wife on Monday to find out if she had heard from her husband, at which point she told them he had been admitted to a Cape Town hospital.

He said police were considering claiming back from Van Rensburg all expenses incurred during the search two weeks ago.
