Johannesburg - A Soweto policeman found his wife and his brother on Monday bleeding on his kitchen floor, both with gunshot wounds, police said.
Captain Mbazima Shiburi said neighbours heard shouting from the house and informed the owner, a policeman based in Soweto. When he investigated he found his wife and his brother wounded in his kitchen.
The police officer's firearm was found next to the wounded pair, said Shiburi. The wife had a wound to her chest, and the brother had a wound to each shoulder. Shiburi said they had "somehow" both been shot with the same weapon.
The wife and her brother-in-law were at Baragwanath hospital, and would both be charged with attempted murder.
Police were investigating the incident and if the policeman was found to have been negligent regarding his firearm, steps would be taken against him, Shiburi said.
