Pietermaritzburg - A KwaZulu-Natal family has been traumatised by the “cool and calculated” murder of a popular local doctor.

Dr Bhavih Sewram, 33, was shot outside his surgery in Pietermaritzburg at about 19:00 on Monday night, reported the Daily News.

Sewram was shot dead by a man who approached him after he got into his car. He was shot three times at point-blank range through the window and died at the scene.

His shocked widow, Yuvadia Sewram, said she had lost her best friend and father of her two daughters, Lysti, 5, and Zita, 3. “My whole life is in turmoil,” she said.

On Wednesday, scores of mourners gathered to pay their last respects to Sewram, The Witness reported.

There was a long procession from the gate to the hall to view the doctor’s body, and many people had to stand in the hall because all the chairs were occupied.

Among the mourners were nurses in uniform, who had to rush back to work before the service ended.

Sewram was described as a family man, a dear son, brother, community doctor and a charitable man.

Sewram’s father, Parmanand, thanked the community for their support.
