Farm killing: Cops suspect teen

2012-04-17 10:01

Kimberley - Griekwastad police apparently suspect a 15-year-old boy of killing three members of a local family in their farmhouse over the Easter weekend, according to a report.

Deon Steenkamp, 44, his wife Christel, 43, and their daughter Marthella, 24, were shot dead on Good Friday.

Volksblad reports that police sources believe there was only one shooter - the surviving member of the family - but Griekwastad police would not officially confirm this.

It was reported in Rapport over the weekend that rumours had started circulating in Griekwastad about the teenager, and that legal counsel had been appointed for him. Witnesses said he had been seen arguing with his father on the day of the murders, apparently because he wanted to farm instead of going to school.

The murders took place in the TV-room. Christel was shot twice, once in the back of her head, before Deon was shot three times.

Marthella appeared to have tried to run for her life. Her blood was found on door frames and walls outside the kitchen door.

Police are investigating whether she had possibly been killed outside and dragged back into the farmhouse.

The safe that held the weapons that had killed the Steenkamps, was found open and unlocked.

i pray that this boy was not capable of shooting his Father, Mother AND Sister... Please let it not be true...

      Assegai - 2012-04-17 10:15

We should not judge him. We don't know what went on in that house. His sister was a very gifted student and maybe the parents made a huge fuss over her. There is definitely a lot more to this story than we will ever know. For a 15 year old to shoot his family means there was severe psychological abuse maybe???? Who knows.

      Rudi - 2012-04-17 10:28

@ Assegai - so it is acceptable to shoot your sister because your parents make a fuss over her? i heard he was a little brat who was too lazy to go to school and threatened everybody after the shooting to leave him alone because he has R24 mil. I'm sorry but I cannot see how this can be justified. Judge him? Maybe not but what he did? Definately!

      Squeegee - 2012-04-17 10:34

Assegai, are you mentally challenged? Nothing justifies killing your family - nothing!

      Assegai - 2012-04-17 10:38

I refuse to judge him until he has told his side of the story! I wish I could be there to be a friend in this dark hour when the whole world has turned their backs on him. he has a story to tell, I just know it!

      Lyndatjie - 2012-04-17 10:57

I agree with Assegai... lets wait for the facts before crucifying this young man... If he is guilty - then let the evidence show it!

      npretorius2 - 2012-04-17 11:02

We should not judge him... YET! Depends on evidence and outcome of trial.

      Rob - 2012-04-17 11:02

Judging from some of the comments below by our majority commentators, it appears that it almost a relief that this might be a white on white farm murder. No compassion, just mindless comments & joy expressed that it might not be " one of their own. " THIS TIME !

      Rob - 2012-04-17 11:04

Of course wait for the facts before forming your opinion about the boy. But that can surely have no effect at all on the core principle that there can be no justification for murder...whatever the provocation. There are always alternatives.

      Lorain - 2012-04-17 11:08

@ Rob yes you're right this time around it was not a black man so instead of being bitter about it give credit where it's due please

      cosmos.ndebele - 2012-04-17 11:10

@Rob yeee its relief based on the comments that people made when this story initial broke!!!

      Felix - 2012-04-17 11:15

Brave stance Vusi, I have to say that unless the media has bungled the facts it's not looking good for this young man.

      Peter-Peter - 2012-04-17 11:25

3rd word in the story...'apparently' Ive never seen this word used by a 'journalist'...great job on stirring your pot of sensationalist c**p, news24. This website has become a flipping soapie...with gossip, and pure uneducated guesses from some 'desktop journalist'

      maseratifittipaldi - 2012-04-17 11:32

Quite, Vusi. Too often we make baseless and destructive judgement calls.

      Mis - 2012-04-17 12:12

@Assegai, are you sure you want to be his `a friend in this dark hour...` or you want a share of his 24 million.

      Cameron - 2012-04-17 12:15

WAT? Was this ANOTHER case that turned out to be NOT a farm killing?! But its already part of the statistics on the websites and motivational talks around the fire for the coming weeks! And what to do now with all the posters and sweaters decrying our extinction? Ok then … lets change our comments now from "hang him" to " we should not judge him".

      Hermann - 2012-04-17 13:30

@all - Assegai may have a point. Nevertheless let us wait for justice to take its course and then when that process has been completed pass judgement.

      Ditiro - 2012-04-17 13:57

Why Monieque so some black people can take the blame, Assegai " we should not judge him, we don't know what went on ih that house" with you logic the all farm murders and thier muderers should not be judged as we don't know what went on it those farms. what ever went on in that house no one deserves to be shot in the back of thier heads OK

      Smell - 2012-04-17 19:26

I find it disgusting that some contributors here want to hear "what the boy's side of the story is" before judging him, even if it turns out that the boy actually committed this heinous atrocity. As if there could be ANY justification for a teenager to wipe out his family for ANY reason. Assegai, next time there is a farm murder involving Black teenagers, I will read your contribution with interest. You will probably want to hear their side of the story first, like unpaid wages or repetitive humiliation. There is NO justification for taking someone else's life, except in self defence where the defender's life is at risk. The colour of one's skin is no excuse to commit an atrocity. This all smacks of racism, and detracts from the horrible problem we have with farm murders.

      andre.sunnasy - 2012-04-17 23:16

@ditiro, why does everthing have to be about race. You don't even know Monique to label her a racist!!! Its the point of how a son and brother aged 15yrs can be capable of such an act, even if its true, it goes totally against the grain of family. You trust your family to protect, sometimes with their lives, this is the point she is making.

      Smell - 2012-04-18 07:45

It is strange because it really is strange.

      Amanda - 2012-04-18 07:47

HA HA Well said MIS. Assegaai you are in for a thing here.

      Byron - 2012-04-18 18:09

@Cameron - exactly! Thought I was the only one who noticed ... oh and don't forget the 'nothing justifies killing' stance when a few days ago it was KILL so-and-so and KILL what-sis-name for allowing whathaveu to transpire ... selective bloodthirst

  • Olebogeng - 2012-04-17 10:08

The boy is the one who killed the entire family.

      Rudi - 2012-04-17 10:30

Anyone with half a brain cell can work this one out. I believed from the beginning that he was the one. Murderers and burglars won't take th eguns out of the safe and leave all the money behind. Then dump the murder weapons for the police to find. This is clearly soemone that cracked and tried to make up some story after he lost the plot.

      Anakin - 2012-04-17 13:49

Are you the judge in this matter? I don't think so!

      Sean - 2012-04-18 02:15

      EISH !! All these clever CSI`s !!

  • bluzulu - 2012-04-17 10:10

Amazing the Blantant posts, this story received when it first broke.....Now the silence is deafening.....FOEI TOG,

      Lorain - 2012-04-17 10:33

@ bluzulu too true, I'm also sitting wondering where all the racists are @

      Felix - 2012-04-17 11:07

@Lorain, well you've found the other half of them.

      Brett - 2012-04-17 11:09

Ummmmm.....have you forgotten about the other 3000 or more farmers that werent murdered by family members? Who do you believe committed all of those brutal slayings?

      cosmos.ndebele - 2012-04-17 11:17

BluZulu agreed with you 100%, these idiots from News24 comment section ar now nowhere to be found.

      Lorain - 2012-04-17 11:23

@ Brett stick to the topic at hand or atleast try.

      Brett - 2012-04-17 11:28

Lorain use your brain cell or at least try.

      Brett - 2012-04-17 11:29

      @cosmos well you are here...

      DuToitCoetzee - 2012-04-17 12:31

@bluzulu. If you red my comments on earlier articles I believe you will agree that it gives me the right to say that what you have said is true, but it is also true that the "blamers" are 99% right when articles like this appear. It is also correct that most of the one's now using your words are the same that always try to down talk it by saying the farmers do not treat their people fairly, etc. This even sometime when fellow farm workers contradict it. So you see bluzulu, that sword you using now, are sharpen on both sides. My point still stand. People must not judge to fast or build up excuses before the facts are not known. News24 is a business and they will use sensations or place a story before all are known.

      Marion - 2012-04-17 13:11

@Gestoffle - they did not have reason to believe. They chose to assume.

      cosmos.ndebele - 2012-04-17 13:13

@Gestoffle BLUZULU Indian proud South African, now u accuse Indians of killing farmers too?

      bluzulu - 2012-04-17 13:20

Since I returned to RSA I treat the Public like family; I have Avo trees on my property which are harvested and given freely to the society around me. I do voluntary work with my girls every Sunday. My wife takes treats down to the local Police station on celebratory days. We live in harmony with everyone. How many of the Posters here are actually taking part in the transformation? It's the simple things that make people happy and proud to be RSA.

      Hermann - 2012-04-17 13:34

@Brett. I love fruit salad mixing peaches and pears like you do. Keep to the issue and don't play the players, play the ball. This is just another disgusting farm murder regardless who committed the crime, it is disgusting.

      Gestoffle - 2012-04-17 13:54

@cosmos.ndebele - I am not sure, do they kill farmers? One thing I do know they honour kill, that is quite acceptable isnt it? Goes on all the time....in a separate case, you might have heard of Dewani, he is an Indian. Is your braincell going off on a tangent again? @bluzulu-is that honestly the best response you could give? you only mention profanity. FOEI TOG is very english is it not? Please point that out in the Oxford for me. Is idiot enough of an english word for you? I will never be part of the transformation mr bluzulu, simply because I dont know who to trust. You are a fool to think that everybody in SA can live in harmony, you will be the first to have your throat slit. If you a harmonist yourself, as you claim to be, you would not have made the comment to try and "wind" people up. Harmony centres around peace my friend, you just adding fuel to the flames. I think the word hypocrite comes to mind, look that up in the oxford.

      bluzulu - 2012-04-17 14:00

@ Gestoffe, The only loser here is you which is unfortunate cos we need all RSA. Come join the transformation and you will feel better about RSA as you will see first hand that people are getting a better deal. Wish you could make that change and give RSDA and it's people a chance,.

      cosmos.ndebele - 2012-04-17 15:38

@Gestoffle u hve a very serious RACE problem & u need help very fast. Honour kilings & Dewani just because they happen to hve Indian connections so we should now demonise everybody Indian? Is that your point? Whats the connection with the article above? Should we all now assume that all innocent young Afrikaners are family killers just because this teen is suspected of ending all for his family? For example European Pedophile problem that we read about everyday, cases in Austria, Italy, Netherlands, UK & US, should we now assume that Europeans or people of European origin are child rapist?? Just reply me man or anybody who agrees with you.

      Brett - 2012-04-17 16:02

@HermannH the fact that you do not comprehend the complexity and therefore the scale of the topic shows that you are somewhat intellectually challenged. Stick to making fruit salad.

      cosmos.ndebele - 2012-04-17 16:05

Pointless to unlike my comment above, i asked for a written response!

      Gestoffle - 2012-04-17 17:16

*sigh* I cant see for all the thumbsdown to your comments cossy-me-man. Its very clear to me you hated here....I will let the thumbsdown do the talking

      bluzulu - 2012-04-17 17:31

Cosmos....being hated by pathetic fools is a non event...... As I always say if those whom(whatever they may be) do not want to join and make RSA a success....then they should concede and help begrudgingly or leave RSA as they infect the next generation with their HATRED.

      Gestoffle - 2012-04-17 18:18

You should be Yellow-Naidoo (not bluzulu) yellow as in yellow-bellied little coward. If I re-call, somebody left the country, please leave again yourself.

      cosmos.ndebele - 2012-04-17 18:43

Gestoffle case rested. U are just another troll, i thought we could hve a debate. Thumbs down ar coming from one identical group of people.

      Gestoffle - 2012-04-17 19:07

@cossy - yes one group of people that agree that you and your mate are prats. Getting into a protracted debate with you, is well, getting a better response from a brick wall and I know its solid. What do you want to debate about? What are going to convince me that all black people dont hate white people or perhaps that you are still suppressed after 18 years in power or perhaps the ANC is really organised. Dont waste my frikkin time.

      Gestoffle - 2012-04-17 19:14

what bluzulu - couldnt cut it in NZ eh? You claim to be wealthy? We both know that's a lie. And...careful the wheel doesn't turn; bad things happen to good people too. You not wrapped in cotton wool.......

      Gestoffle - 2012-04-17 19:27

Careful Sam, thats a trick question.......

      Sipho - 2012-04-17 20:02

spot on dude!@Lorain...the racist are the ones who are giving your post the dumbs down!! I gave it a dumbs up!!

      Gestoffle - 2012-04-17 20:15

"Sorry I can't help you see that every Human is their unique personality and soul. This is proven via science and Religion even though I am an Atheist.Look at your own Family ,,,,If you have a sibling, Are yous not different people?.............NEXT" For crying in bucket are you for real? You take all that time to type all above. Great analogy there Einstein, are you sure we all different? I thought we all the same. What is "Next"? Are we in a for queue for hamburgers? You started this string by stirring everybody up, now I am going to hammer you my friend. You are inciting hatred, just like this other thing on here. Is Stanger in Zululand? Do you know what I am alluding too yet?

      Marian - 2012-04-17 20:18

the racists are the ones giving these comments a thumb down. when the story broke it was gung-ho on blacks now there's just talk on "the other side of the story". Here's an explanation - white people murder for greed and love of money

      bluzulu - 2012-04-17 20:20

      Tienie..... hehehehhehhehee

      Gestoffle - 2012-04-17 20:40

@Marian - I want to see how racist you would be if your family, friend, etc were butchered by a black....if it were a white person what would you call it then, still racism? In my earlier comment, which was deleted, people had every right to assume it was a black orchestrated murder. It has nothing to with racism, it is fact of life that 99% of attacks are from black people. So they got it wrong, what are you going to say about that attack that will happen this week. This thread is about this retard who is inciting that very hatred you are talking about, then claims to be the Dalai Lama (with all respect to the Dalai Lama, as he is a man of peace) with all his harmony principles. Fool, damn hypocrites all of you.

      Gestoffle - 2012-04-18 08:37

@Sean - can you actually read? You have missed the point completely; where exactly in this thread was anybody trying to justify this murder? Shuddup and don't embarrass yourself any further!

  • Lorain - 2012-04-17 10:12

I kinda feel sorry for him though.

      Lorain - 2012-04-17 10:22

@ Jacqueline dont get excited, I also said from the beginning it was him and I also highlighted how everyone jumped to the conclusion that the perp was black, but all I'm saying is that he just messed up his entire life at such a tender age and i can almost guarantee that this will haunt him forever especially when he's older and realises that his dad only had his best interests at heart.

      radlegend - 2012-04-17 10:28

I agree with you. I feel so sorry for him. Now he's being suspected of killing his entire family... If he didn't do it, and he honestly truly was out in the barn while some random person came in and shot everyone and left... Crime doesn't need a plausible explanation. Most people die for senseless reasons, no reasons at all sometimes. Maybe the father had a breakdown and killed everyone in sight before killing himself?!?!?! YOU NEVER KNOW.

      Foc - 2012-04-17 10:42

radlegend .... he must have been a very strong man to shoot himself THREE times .... he probably just wanted to make sure!!

      Lorain - 2012-04-17 10:43

@ trurio no i feel sorry for him because he is a kid and he just meesed up his life in the same manner i feel sorry for the kid involved in the ET murder,do you get it now?

      Candice - 2012-04-17 12:22

I agree with Lorain it must take a hell of a person to murder his family..If he did it for financial gain he could have fled the country sumhow to make sure he does gets away with it.. Someone doesnt just get up in the morning and feel like killing the world.. For all everyone knws he could have learning challenges and being pressured to go to school having such disabilities is beyond a lot of individuals endurance levels.. Imagine if he was dyslexic and being pressured to perform like his sister when it is beyond his capabilities.. Im by no mean justifying what he has done.. but step into his shoes one second before you judge..

      Junebugg - 2012-04-17 16:01

You also feel sorry for other people who murder farmers?

      Merven - 2012-04-18 07:33

How the hell can you feel sorry for the brat? He must be hung from the closest tree (if he is found guilty).

      Lorain - 2012-04-18 07:37

@ Juebugg please dont be an idiot all your life, the reason why he is called a minor is because he does not have the right frame of mind to fully appreciate right and wrong, yes he knows what he did was wrong and knew it even before he did it but he does not yet quite appreciate the consequences of the entire thing and i'm not just talking about jail time i'm talking about what this will do to his soul eventually. he is 15 he is a child.

      Merven - 2012-04-18 09:42

He is also a murderer. Why is 15 seen as a child anyway? My granddad was a soldier in the WW2 at the age of 16. And his father was fighting in the Aglo Boer War at the age of 14. At 15 you know very well what is right and wrong. You must do what is right not because of the fact that you're afraid of the consequences but because of your moral standards.

  • Deon - 2012-04-17 10:14

The sister was only 14 not 24? He will be named after he pleaded, but we all know who it was.

      koo.doyle - 2012-04-17 10:17

      Do we? Were 'we' there?

      elize12 - 2012-04-17 10:49

He might not be named after all, remember he is only 15 therefore being a minor (although everybody probably guess who he is)

  • Carla - 2012-04-17 10:18

How do you kill your parents are sister?????? If this were my nephew, I don't think I'd be willing to assist him with legal fees...

      Carla - 2012-04-17 10:19

      parents AND sister

  • Rob - 2012-04-17 10:23

Apologies to former & future farmer killers out there. I too thought it was one of you ! Turns out I was wrong. My humble apologies. Cant for the life of me imagine why I thought the way I did.

      Lorain - 2012-04-17 10:34

@ Rob i can tell you why you thought that way,it's because of your racist upbringing,it's not your fault, you were conditioned to think that way.

      Rob - 2012-04-17 10:52

Prudence. Makes a change neh !!!! JJ. Facts are facts ! Shame. Live with it. We have to. Lorain. Nothing racist in my comment. Just facts. I think many white people, like me who DID NOT have a racist upbringing are gatvoel of black on white killings. If being gatvoel of something like this is percieved to be racist by the likes of you & your comrades JJ & Prudence, then you are in a bad way. Should we all just hug each other & pretend this is not happening ?

      Lorain - 2012-04-17 11:01

@ Rob and Nikki,no you people are brought to believe that if it's a crime do not ask questions at all,pin it on the fisrt black person you see according to you lot all blacks fit the description of the perp. And Rob as far as facts go? here's a fact here is a white boy who might have killed his white family, how's that for facts?

      JJ - 2012-04-17 11:03

Where did I say racism in my previous response? My problem was with the way you went about what you said... I still maintain you are a twat!! Please point out one fact you mentioned in your comment? You are trying to make a statement by hiding behind sarcasm... Yes Rob, i can read between lines and again yes Rob, you are showing your prejudice quite clearly. I hate crime perpertrated by anyone against anyone else, you show your displeasure with one race clearly.

      Rob - 2012-04-17 11:18

JJ. You are sounding more & more like the twat each time you post. Geez man, of course my comment was sarcastic & I was making a statement by using sarcasam. No need to hide behind it, any level headed person with a hint of a brain knows why some or most of us think that blacks were responsible for this murder. It is of course, because most of the time they are. There are not too many whites, in fact very few, killing, raping & stealing from blacks & when on the rare occasion, it does happen, most normal people will not go on the defensive & look for excuses, but rather condem it for what it is. Read between the lines ??? You did'nt have to. Twat !

      Bongolethu - 2012-04-17 11:20

@Lorraine: i thk we all, irrespective of race, need to get to a point where we denounce murder of any individual instead of labelling certain murders and thereby putting them at some level prominence over others. We grieve the same way when we lose a loved through crime. So why are you guys so obsessed abt farm murders as if their lives are worth much more than the lives of other poeple?

      cosmos.ndebele - 2012-04-17 11:26

      Rob u ar idiot

      JJ - 2012-04-17 11:33

Rob, I'm not going to go up and down with so here is my last response: Instead of addressing the situation, where it emerges that a white boy may have killed his family, you use sarcasm to make a statement about black people commiting crime. I don't have a problem with the assumption in the first place, because a lot of people did believe it may have been a farm murder perpertrated by black people. No one has to recite the stats or assumptions to me, i know them very well and can understand. You make no statement about what has transpired, just a sarcastic comment about the people assumed to have commited the crime. Just a note, where sarcasm is concerned you do have to read between the lines as the actual message of the comment is hidden and not said plainly. TWAT!!

      Rob - 2012-04-17 11:42

JJ. Just when I was begining to " warm to you. " Cosmos. That " hurts " coming from you.

      Shannon - 2012-04-17 11:42

To the question of farm murders. Fact: Most farmers are white. Fact: Most farmers live in remote areas with poor security. Fact: Most poor people in the country are black. Fact: Most crimes in any country are committed by poor people. Fact: In South Africa, most crimes are committed by poor people - who happen to be black. Fact: Most white farmers who are murdered, are killed by black people. This does not mean that black people are criminals who specifically target farmers because they are white. Removing colour from this it is merely poor people in rural areas targetting richer people who live on farms with poor security. Calling this genocide or race murders is ridiculous and further divides us as a country with a tragic history. Use logic people, use logic!

      Rob - 2012-04-17 11:50

Shannon. If you are poor and are forced to steal so be it ! BUT ARE YOU FORCED TO MURDER & TORTURE AS WELL ???? So many farmers DEAD, so poor blacks in rural areas can steal & sell the stolen goods to support themselves. What a stupid, stupid comment on your part.

      Brett - 2012-04-17 11:56

@Shannon OK please can you use logic to explain why, in so many instances, farmers are tortured, mutilated and the women raped during these "robberies". Even babies are not spared. does a poor person need to do this in order to steal?

      Ditiro - 2012-04-17 14:08

stop with you BS Rob 3000+ plus farm murder we don't know who committed all of them, blacks were responsible for some but not all as some were never solved and murderers never caught

      Nyiks11 - 2012-04-17 14:40

@Rob Sarcasm is racism's ugly cousin , some say

      Rob - 2012-04-17 14:41

Ditiro. I'm tired. Leave me alone.

      Shannon - 2012-04-17 18:32

@ Rob and Brett. You make it sound as if the only people who are subjected to excessive levels of violence during robberies are whites. You read every day of black children raped, black women stabbed 47 times etc. The violence is a sad reality in this country but I dont think it is specifically targeted. Saying that however, I have seen the appalling way some farmers treat their staff. So it is possible that the excessive violence especially in the case of farm murders by staff, that anger and revenge plays a part. Not that this in any way condones this level of violence. Again, I think race can be removed from this and the story can be seen as follows: Rich farmer (who is SA case is usually white) attacked by poor farm worker (in SA case usually black) who has been abused for many years..... robbery turns into murder etc. What I was trying to say is that we need to remove race from this (an many other arguments) and look at it in terms of class (poor versus rich). See..... logic prevails. And no - I dont think that was a stupid comment of mine at all! I just dont believe that farm murders are race related - rather class related. And to try to label these killings as an attempt of one race to wipe out another race based purely on their race is incorrect!

      Lorain - 2012-04-18 07:42

@ Shannon it's refreshing to see that there are white people willing to look at the other side of the spectrum.I just want to touch on the point you made about black women also being in danger of violence everyday, in fact i think black women are in more danger than any farmer ( I am not by any means trying to down play farm murders) but it would be a miracle if we went a day without hearing about a black women being stabbed, raped, strangled to death,it's a daily occurance and that too needs attention, in fatc lets just say violent crime as whole needs special attention in SA.

      Byron - 2012-04-18 18:32

"Apologies to former & future farmer killers out there" and here I thought a farmer was killed? Must be a slow day at the brains office for me ...

  • JJ - 2012-04-17 10:25

Waiting to see if we see any consistancy in the calling of this killer "an animal", if we hear "only in Africa", etc... Somehow I doubt it...

      Farmworker - 2012-04-17 10:39

double standard, apparently is not applicable to them, although they are the main mastermind behind the rhino killings as well

      Lorain - 2012-04-17 11:14

@ JJ you have a long wait ahead of you.

      kensong.ben - 2012-04-17 11:25

Indeed .. Superior genes pool advocates in this forum ; who is eating humble pies know ?

      Rob - 2012-04-17 11:30

Barbaric act by this young savage. No doubt influenced @ such a young age that killing is the answer to any problems he might have had. With all the murders taking place in this country today, it just goes to show how some of our countries youth have been desensitised & are capable of such heinous acts. It appears, our youth are becoming " good students " & paying attention to the actions of those who are older & kill with such impunity. Very sad. Only in Africa.

      JJ - 2012-04-17 11:36

Hahaha!! Rob now you are just trolling... But thank you, I found your intent quite amusing!!

      muriel.proudfoot - 2012-04-17 11:48

It so funny, MOST violent crime are committed by blacks (FACT – Check the news and prisons), and if it turns out not to be a black, then it is a HUGE issue. Yet, these people that has so much to say on the RARE occasion that it is a white person comiting a violent crime, are silent when people are murdered, raped tortured BY THE MINUTE at the hands of a murderous BLACK person! If you want to call me a racist for stating this fact… then please contact each and every newspaper, police station, judge and prison who has proven and found blacks guilty of these crimes and call them RACIST too… come to think of it, Police, judges etc. are governed by the ANC, so are you calling the ANC racist because they convicted black offenders?????????????

      Rob - 2012-04-17 11:52

Thanks JJ. I'm not trolling, just having a go ! Mind you being the twat I am, I looked @ my comment again & there might just be a hint of truth there.

      JJ - 2012-04-17 11:59

You know Rob, as much as we've had a bit of a go at one another today, something tells me having an argument with you over a beer would be an enjoyable and amusing experience!! Have a great day mate!! From one twat to another hahaha

      Lorain - 2012-04-17 12:10

@ JJ i think Rob would rather watch you clean his garden while he's having a beer. it's not his fault he was just brought up to think that way.

      Rob - 2012-04-17 12:42

Lorain. No my dear. JJ is right ! You are not invited though !

      Marion - 2012-04-17 13:34

      Rob - 2012-04-17 13:47

      Lorain - 2012-04-18 12:13

@ Rob I cant help wondering why.

  • radlegend - 2012-04-17 10:25

Really? Because nothing else makes sense, and the cops cant think of anyone else...they blame the nearest available person?? Is it his fault that he wasn't killed during this tragedy?? Is it his fault that he survived? Now they'll put the blame on him?? This all sounds like lazy police detective work if you ask me. RIP all who died...and God bless the boy who now has to live alone...an orphan.... SHAME on the cops for jumping to conclusions...framing a young boy.... SMH

      Carla - 2012-04-17 10:32

"SHAME on the cops for jumping to conclusions...framing a young boy.... SMH" You're doing the exact same thing and presuming that he is being framed. Unless you were there, you have no way of knowing what actually happened. I have no way of knowing whether or not this boy murdered his family and neither do you. Let the police do their work and hopefully the truth will come out.

      Squeegee - 2012-04-17 10:37

      radlegend - 2012-04-17 10:42

Police never find the truth. It's all guess-work and hunches. If they have it in for you....you're going to jail. Simple. Unless you have money, you can get away with anything. It's the sad disgusting truth.

      Bongolethu - 2012-04-17 11:14

Just bcz he's a white kid you thk he's being framed? If this boy was some Sizwe you were never gonna say such drivel. Yes, we all donno what happened and therefore we shouldnt be jumping to conclusions. let's wait for cops to dig up more info. Truth shall prevail, hopefully.

      jaco.duplessis2 - 2012-04-17 11:15

Radlegend, the most clueless remark I've read in years! You do not need more than one braincell to figure out it was the boy.

      DuToitCoetzee - 2012-04-17 12:34

I disagree with you. Give the cops a chance and than comment. This is a speculation of a reporter and people and no official statement.

  • rosemarie.slomp - 2012-04-17 10:40

Why did the police let the boy wash off all the blood ?? What about gunpowder traces on him ? If negative, why do they only now accuse him or is this another case of hearsay? Was there sand on the guns as they were picked up by the gate ? So many questions !!!! I hope the detectives did their job well as this is a young life they are playing with. I am concerned !!!!!

  • Liesbet - 2012-04-17 10:43

Can I take my words back??? I defended this boy.....thinking how on earth can they accuse the poor boy.... So, I'm taking my words back! I think he did it....

  • Marko - 2012-04-17 10:44

I knew it from the first time I read the news paper report. Just to add something the ifiots who make stupid statement about farm killings must grow up. 99.99 persent of farm murders are comitted by blacks on whites. And only 99.99 persent of blacks are killed by their own people. The 0.1 persent killed by whites are called racist attacks. The murders by black on white is only 'CRIME'. I see it as racially motivated. Either you condone murder or you you don't. Please people wake up, history is going to brad you.

  • Sibongile - 2012-04-17 10:47

I can't help but wonder just how many of these farm murders, blamed on blacks, are family feud murders.

      Deon - 2012-04-17 11:02

When nothing was stolen it is usually a family member, like Dewani. Do you see the similarities?

      Zee - 2012-04-17 11:29

      ag please!!!! S T A T I S T I C S!!! do y ou understand that??

      Psalm - 2012-04-17 14:31

@ Sibongile I raised that very same observation and my comment was deleted (probably by the SA Nazi brigade). The SA cops need to adopt the US approach of investigating families, friends and neighbours in respect of many of these suspicious farm attacks where, for example, individuals are allegedly just tortured and killed "for no reason", burned alive for no reason, where no robbery occurs or flimsy items are stolen but more valuable objects are left. You don't need to be Eistein to realise that a family member or a neighbour can committ murder due a family grudge or inheritance issues, etc and claim to be a "survivor" of the attack by imaginary black guys who "attacked the farm". The El Cajon murder of a muslim woman in her house (with a "hate crime" note left at her body) did not result in US cops being moved by hysterical claims of "hate crime" (from muslim groups) and family claims that the family has received an anti-muslim note before. They are looking closer to home and it is bearing fruit. Racists don't need to come to a house to kill - they can find members of that race anywhere. There is a lot of hysteria in many white quarters whenever a white person in killed on a farm. If the attack is "suspicious", we get wild claims about genocide and racist attack because "there was no robbery". I say the "suspicion" must result in SA cops looking closer to home. Why would a racist lie in wait at a farm just beat up and kill a white person? They live only on farms?

      Merven - 2012-04-18 13:33

Tell me Psalm, does the US government sing songs instigating the killing of Muslims?

      Psalm - 2012-04-18 16:35

@ Merven No, the US government is more thorough and does not have time to sing about killing. They actually raise up armies to wage actual war against Muslim terrorists outside USA. Furthermore, the US president is now empowered by law to target any terrorist (including American terrorists) for assassination - no singing required. The general US Muslim population (including students on campus and Muslims attending mosques) may be spied on by law inforcement agents, be the subject of the King Enquiries into radicalisation in the USA, etc. Again, no singing - just clear US action. For clarity, this post should not be interpreted as criticism of the US regarding its war against Islamic terror. It is a mere observation, that shows that the US government knows a truth that you may have missed: that citizens are not moved into action by mere singing - but rather, by actual policy pronouncements.

  • Mike - 2012-04-17 10:50

I also have the feeling the son was the responble person

      mfudzi.wamambo - 2012-04-17 15:02

@Qinisile please let's wait until investigations are completed. if he i indeed the culprit, then it's unimaginable how he can escape the claws of the law but let's not conclude with confidence that he is the one. it could well have been somebody else who wished to achieve a certain unknown objective. no wonder the law will take its fullest course.

  • Qinisile - 2012-04-17 10:50

    So sad :(.

  • elize12 - 2012-04-17 10:53

No child of 15 years old just go and kill his whole family - there must be something else behind this whole incident - maybe we should just let be and let the Law takes it's course - we will know soon enough - some or other magazine will soon be publishing the "truth" coming from relatives and friends.

      Merven - 2012-04-18 07:45

No excuse, then he should've gone to the police or the welfare.

Kill the farmer kill the boer I thought it was only meant that black will kill white, but now I don't understand white on white, but what I understand is this is South Africa.

      Tanie - 2012-04-17 10:58

They have been killing each other since 1994.

      Pixie86 - 2012-04-17 11:35

elize, i never get why white people have to name crime. Family murder, farm murder? Whatever, it's murder whether it's black on white or white on black!

      bluzulu - 2012-04-17 12:38

""A New Phenomenon"".....Europeans are killing each other daily here and around the world.

      Marion - 2012-04-17 13:18

@bluzulu - just for the record, I prefer to be referred to as a white. Not that I've committed murder (although some seem to think I am a danger to both myself and others). :-)))

      bluzulu - 2012-04-17 13:23

      K ...Marion,

      bluzulu - 2012-04-17 13:24

What about MY TERM...."AFROPEANS" What do you think of that term?

      Marion - 2012-04-17 14:13

@bluzulu - Afropeans? lol that sounds weird but better than Europeans. That has too many associations with apartheid for my liking. :-)))

      bluzulu - 2012-04-17 14:15

      Sweet as , Marion.

      Angela - 2012-04-17 18:19

@bluzulu While we're on the subject of Europeans killing each other, just take a look at the deaths from the first and second world wars, both military and civilian - that lot are adept at knocking each other off.

      bluzulu - 2012-04-17 18:49

Angela , It's amazing that a Country can try to take over the Entire Planet. Let's not mention which Continent they hailed from.

  • Gavin - 2012-04-17 10:59

I suspected that he might of done it,because he apparently picked up the weapons.Do you really think a robber would throw the weapons down.

  • Frans - 2012-04-17 11:02

Jeez people, get real.(1) You pity this boy and why? Assegai want to be the to be his friend- why? Only because his WHITE? Take this any way you like. Ask yourselves and be honest about it - would you have the same sympathy if it was a black boy? \r\n(2) Does that mean I should kill my family because my siblings are more successful in life than I am?

  • Dipzen - 2012-04-17 11:04

I think people who have jumped to conclusion should go look up the word \suspect\ in the dictionary. Until police investigation can conclude that he did it the boy remains innocent. I ask that people not draw up conclusions since they don't have the full details of the investigation. I'm sickened by those who where already blaming blacks for this and the people who are glad that there's no black suspect but rather a boy. Ai south africans!

  • Nyiks11 - 2012-04-17 11:07

The father is probably the one who taught the teen how to shoot in preparation for when them economic freedom fighters land on their farm . There is an old chinese proverb which goes a little something like this , " when you dig a grave for your enemy , dig two"

sorry to burst your bubble, Biggs, he is no 'little animal" Little animals, actually all animals are cute. Never ever compare criminals with animals.

  • RoryKlein - 2012-04-17 11:15

This is very sad. BUT I am gob smacked that with all the reports how the individuals involved how their ages have changed with each report, namely the children. The daughter went from 14 to 12 and now she is 24 .... Our reports need to learn the art of investgating a story and getting the facts right.

      maggsie - 2012-04-17 11:24

agreed, noticed how the daughters age has changed with each article. News24 really needs to work on this, they have published numerous articles with shocking errors! Do they not have an editor or edit department?

      Merven - 2012-04-18 07:49

      Just your typical N24 reporter.

  • Nyiks11 - 2012-04-17 11:15

This murder will still be blamed on Juju because now he has resorted to mentoring young white boys in radical polotics(sic) , hence they are rebelling against their elders. eish

      Lorain - 2012-04-17 11:59

@ Mgayi, you know i didnt think about that but thre is alot of truth to that statement, try anything you possibly can to somehow still pin it on the black man and trust me with the likes of Rob on this forum, they will find an angle.

      Merven - 2012-04-18 07:51

Lorain, you're probably the biggest racist on this site, just as Rob will find an angle to blame blacks, you'll find an angle to justify the black killings of whites. You and Rob are very much the same.

      Lorain - 2012-04-18 12:22

@ Merven dont compare me to Rob,he will kill you and find a black man to pin it on. No I am not a racist i am just reacting to the nonsense that you people post here, what am i supposed to say? Yes baas merven all black people are murderers and rapists",will i be less of a racist then? I always mention how apalling the farm murders are that are commited by black people,(not to impress any white person)but I guess in your quest to label and paint black people with the same crime brush, you conviniently miss that part.Anybody who commits murder should not be part of society and if a white farmer gets the upper hand over his black attackers I hope he pumps as many bullets into them as he has.

      Merven - 2012-04-18 14:19

'Yes baas merven all black people are murderers and rapists",' There you just proof that you are a racist.

  • wehan.victor - 2012-04-17 11:29

I am truly amazed at the amount of black and white racists roaming the news24 posts...

      Carla - 2012-04-17 11:32

Yeah, some of the comments uttered by people hiding behind their computers are absolutely shocking.

      Zee - 2012-04-17 11:39

agree!!!! I heard a very interesting chat on the radio last week about this. They are going to start monitoring these sites for racism, hate speech, etc etc. Legal eagles are going to make big bucks!!!

      Felix - 2012-04-17 11:40

The worst ones aren't even SAcans, just bored little trolls who like to stir.

      Nyiks11 - 2012-04-17 13:05

If Zee's comment is anything to go by then I better inform the BLA ( Black Lawyers Association ) , because I sure am gonna have a trial within a trial within a trial with some trying to drill holes through my pocket for expressing my views .

      Marion - 2012-04-17 13:23

@Zee - that is good news. Wonder if we'll get zapped for having a go at Malema? If so I'm in big trouble.

      Zee - 2012-04-17 14:38

I heard about it on Cape Talk radio. Hahahaha Marion, we''re all guilty of having a go at Malema, but I'm sure they wont waste their time with "petty" cases like that LOL

      Merven - 2012-04-18 07:52

@wehan,then you must read the Sowetan forums. It is almost impossible to find a forumite there that don't celebrate when a farm killing happens.

Phew if this is true then sadly this 15 year old was under serious pressure to excel or prove his worth. Was he wanting to farm to show his Father that he was capable of doing well as a son?

      Marion - 2012-04-17 13:25

@gkirby1 - if he did it he went about showing his father that he was capable of doing very badly as a son. Big fail.

  • Luke - 2012-04-17 11:39

the girl was not 24 yrs, she was 13

      Merven - 2012-04-18 07:53

      Ok, 12, 13, 14 or 24?

      Amanda - 2012-04-18 08:06

14 Grade 7 is that not to old to be in Gr 7. If she was a top student as all say, she must have failed somewhere. This boy was jealous of his sister and Yes, he did want to farm. His Dad said NO, He had to kill his sister as well. because she would tell everybody he killed his mom and Dad. His clothes was full of blood, he dragged his sister`s body back into the house. He knew if your hands are full of blood, the police will never trace if you were the one that pulled the trigger. Staying on a farm, his Dad would have taught him everything about guns and ammunition.

I agree that blacks are also racists but they learned from the best (whites)

  • bmhadebe - 2012-04-17 11:40

THis is a sad story indeed...but it would seem that all the critics that were blaming it on certain races have now gone quiet...all I can say is never judge according to your prejudices..We are all human and are capable of horendous things if we dont have the correct values instilled in us...lol

      Amanda - 2012-04-18 08:08

Just shows - BLOOD IS NOT THICKER THAN WATER. He planned this thing along ago, not just on the day after church, after he had the fight with his Dad.

      Merven - 2012-04-19 08:29

Blood is thicker than water, just not as thick as money.

  • Zimbobwe - 2012-04-17 12:20

  • charmaine.dutoit1 - 2012-04-17 12:28

With all do respect. When all of you stopped using this enormous tragedy to air your political views. Why don't you start by praying for this boy and his family. Whatever the outcome. For a bleeding country and her desperate, suffering children. And that's all of us. I mean when you peel all our skins off I bet you there will be only one color. Red. The same as the blood Jesus spilled for you, me the guy and girl on street. Everyone. Love you all. God bless

      Zimbobwe - 2012-04-17 12:58

@Charmaine we must start praying for the boy who killed Eugene Terreblanche and his family and when all is right we will start praying for this one.

  • sydney.matubandlela - 2012-04-17 12:33

So news24.com decided to remove my earlier comment, it clear that you guys support racism, hope the whole country will eventually see what media24 really stands for, a Racist media house!!!

      Carla - 2012-04-17 13:30

But Sydney, your comment in itself was racist?

      sydney.matubandlela - 2012-04-17 13:55

Moi show me one comment that is not racist here on news24.com, my point is there are far worse racist comments here and news24 allow the to circulate, mine wasn't racist, saying a white person is white and a black is black doesn't make one racist!!

      Carla - 2012-04-17 15:17

There are very many commentators on news24 that manage to post non-racists comments on a variety of articles. No, that's not what you said. Your comment was about white people raising their children to hate black people...you don't see that as racist?

  • olerilwe.mosiane - 2012-04-17 12:43

blacks and whites let's try to be careful to what we say or do to our children in order to avoid this in the future.never force a child to do something they don't what to do

      Marion - 2012-04-17 15:20

      Except washing the dishes.

      HugoMabasa - 2012-04-17 16:03

especially if they are 15years old.It so happens that Oom Euge's killer was also 15,whatever happened between 15 year olds and farmers

      Merven - 2012-04-18 09:50

Heheehe, maybe between the age of 12 and 16 kids must be send to an island.

  • Trudi - 2012-04-17 12:47

Those of us that have taught 15year old boys(and girls) know that some of them are quite capable of shooting their families irrespective of their colour. The question is: what triggers this? Sad,sad, sad! Leave race out of it! Unfortunately a lot of kids are spoilt by their parents. Some of these boys are on all kinds of drugs to enhance their performance! Grey is a rugby school isn't it?

      Zimbobwe - 2012-04-17 13:04

Trudi the boy had a dispute with his father and decided to solve it by violence. There were no drugs involved just a cold blooded murderer. He looks like a zombie or that thing flying from a Harry Potter movie. This boy is evil and need to be laid to rest. He is just like Julius Malema, if you create a monster it will come back to bite you!!! SATAN COMES IN ALL DEFFERENT COLOURS AND SIZES!!!
