Johannesburg - A 17-year-old boy has laid a charge of attempted murder after he was shot, allegedly with a rubber bullet fired by police in Robertson on Tuesday, Western Cape police said.
Lieutenant Colonel André Traut said the teenager laid the complaint at the Robertson police station following a farmworkers' protest in the area.
Traut said the matter was handed to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID).
IPID spokesperson Moses Dlamini said he was not immediately aware of the case, but would respond later in the week.
Earlier on Tuesday Cosatu said that farmworkers had ended their strike.
The union federation's provincial secretary Tony Ehrenreich said in a statement: "An agreement put forward by Agri SA contains the basis of the accord that ends this strike."
He said Agri SA, which represented farmers, "essentially commits" itself to negotiations to be held farm-by-farm.
Talks would be about the wage demand of a R150 per day, and a profit-sharing scheme.
