Johannesburg - A motorist's decision to overtake a truck on the R31 near Daniëlskuil in the Northern Cape on Sunday ended in tragedy when his vehicle collided head-on with a bakkie.

ER24 paramedics said the man was travelling with his two children, thought to be one and three-years-old.

He and his one-year-old son were killed in the crash while the toddler was left in a critical state, said ER24 spokesperson Pieter Roussow.

There were three passengers in the bakkie, all of whom sustained moderate to serious injuries.

They were treated on scene before being transported to the Kuruman Hospital for further treatment.
