Faulty fines costly

Pretoria - Incoherent and mistake riddled traffic fines cost the taxpayer thousands each month. The Pretoria magistrate's court throws them out.
Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions George Baloyi said apart from the waste of taxpayers' money, the time of senior prosecutors and metro police officers was also being wasted.
"The director of public prosecutions will have to bring the problem with the quality of the metro police's fines to their attention at a high level," Baloyi said.
This comes after a fine of R75 was withdrawn of Friday because the prosecutor could not determine what the offence had been or under which law the fine was issued.
A week ago, another fine had to be withdrawn because there were ten mistakes on the fine.
Mel Vosloo, spokesperson for the Tswane metro police, said these cases were being investigated.
