Kwamhlanga - A 36-year-old married mother of three was remanded in police custody after she appeared in the KwaMhlanga Magistrate's Court on Tuesday in connection with the rape of a 14-year-old boy.

The woman, from Moloto village, is suspected of raping the boy, who lives next door, since June last year.

The police said the boy told his mother about the rapes after he was found trying to break into a house in the village on Friday.

“His mother was beating him for breaking the house's window when he then told her that he was trying to get money to see a traditional healer because his genitals were sore,” said Mpumalanga police spokesperson Leonard Hlathi.

"The boy told his mother that the woman had been having sex with him after school, while her husband was at work."

The suspect, who has not been asked to plead to the rape charge, will appear in court again on Thursday to apply for bail.
