Fighter jet crashes at air show

Cape Town - A fighter jet has crashed at an air show in Bredasdorp, in the Western Cape's Overberg region.

According to an Eyewitness News report, the pilot was in the middle of his flight when he made emergency calls.

"The plane crashed just on the other side of the Overberg Air Force Base, it is still unclear if the pilot is alright," says Emergency Services’ Kenneth Brooks.

“We understand he was trying to make it back to the air field and I saw it coming out of the sky hitting the ground and a gigantic fire ball erupted,” says one of the spectators.

The biennial South African Air Force Overberg Airshow takes place at the Test Flight and Development Centre near Bredasdorp from 13 tot 15 November.
