Johannesburg - Five robbers, including one woman, did not count on "find my iPad" helping police track them down with their loot spread around them on Saturday.

Police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Katlego Mogale said a man who was robbed at his Sandton home activated the service which can track the approximate location of a device after he reported the robbery on Friday night.

He had been robbed of an iPad, an Audi Q5, jewellery and laptops.

Tembisa police followed up on the information he provided and this led them to Libya street in Klipfontein Ext 3.

The police then went into a nearby tavern where they searched everyone.

"They got further information to check a house on the opposite side of the street," continued Mogale.

"As they approached the house, there was a white Hyundai Getz reversing,  one of the guys was closing the gate. The police searched the Getz, and they found a box full of jewellery," she said.

Police took them into the house and found two other people with the laptops spread out on the table and the sofa.

After more searching they found a number of car keys, three unlicensed firearms, ammunition, jewellery and some of the electronic devices that had been taken during the house robbery.

Police checked out the vehicles found on the premises - a gold Jetta 4 whose owner was not there, a white BMW confirmed as hijacked in Sandton in April, a gold KIA Sportage hijacked in Sandringham in July.

They also found the keys to the stolen Audi AQ in one of the suspects' pockets.

He told police where they had abandoned the vehicle in Ebony Park.

Five people, including a woman, were arrested and they face charges of armed robbery, possession of suspected hijacked and stolen motor vehicles, possession of suspected stolen property and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
