Find out if you're married
Cape Town - Women who want to find out whether they have been married without their permission can now turn to the internet.
The department of home affairs announced on Wednesday that a website is now available where women can check their marital status.
This is part of the department's awareness campaign to eradicate the practise where foreigners fraudulently marry South African women without their knowledge in order to obtain work permits or even South African citizenship.
Any documents issued because of these marriages will be declared null and void.
The department of home affairs said on Wednesday that 200 women, who made enquiries since the start of the campaign, found that they had been married without their knowledge.
Women who want to find out whether they have been victims of this practise can visit www.home-affairs.gov.za.
Visit the website and tell us if you've been the victim of a 'fake' marriage.
