Johannesburg - The fire that raged on the sixth floor of the African National Congress (ANC) headquarters at Albert Luthuli House in Johannesburg, has been put out, emergency services said.
Spokesperson Malcolm Midgley said firefighters were still at the scene in Sauer Street, "dampening and ventilating" the area.
Fire fighters from four fire stations were on the scene from around 14:00.
Midgley said he believed it was the office of Secretary-general Kgalema Motlantle that burned.
No-one was injured in the blaze.
He said the fire had been contained to the sixth floor and mostly to one office.
"But there will be damage from the water and smoke to the rest of the floor."
The extent of the damage was however not yet known.
He said the cause of the fire would be investigated.
ANC spokesperson Steyn Speed said the extent of the damage would be inspected as soon as possible.
He said there were mostly administrative offices on the sixth floor.
