Cape Town - About 20 000ha of vegetation has been destroyed since fires broke out in the Boland last week.
Working on Fire spokesperson Val Charlton said: "There was a mist this morning that will help cool things a little, but that also meant helicopters couldn't fly.
We hope to have the fire under control later today," said Charlton.
Conservation manager Patrick Shone said affected areas were Wemmershoek and the Groot Drakenstein mountain.
Almost 11 800ha of fynbos had been destroyed in Wemmershoek and 7 100 ha on the Groot Drakenstein.
"We are still busy trying to control the fires," said Shone.
