Johannesburg - Five people were injured, a man and his baby son critically, when a bakkie and car collided outside Bethlehem in the Free State on Tuesday, paramedics said.

"There were five people [injured]. Of them one man and his 1-month-old child were in a critical condition," said Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks.

He said the vehicles collided head-on at about noon on the R26.

"When paramedics arrived all the passengers had been pulled from the vehicles by locals who had heard the crash."

Wicks said the injured were taken to various provincial hospitals in the area.
