Cape Town - Thousands of people were left in need of help on the Cape Flats at the weekend as driving rains and strong winds lashed the area.

And the weather conditions are not expected to let up on Monday, with another cold front hitting the Mother City.

The Disaster Risk Management Centre’s Wilfred Solomons-Johannes said low-lying areas were hardest hit, as the water table had increased significantly.

Solomons-Johannes told News24 that while there had been some weather-related injuries, none of them were serious.

He said there had been no major flooding, due in part to regular maintenance of roads and drains.

The weather is only expected to start clearing late on Tuesday.
