Footage delays ANCYL assault case

2012-03-22 12:21
Polokwane - The trial of ANCYL Limpopo member Clifford Mohloana was delayed in the Polokwane Magistrate's Court on Thursday because SABC footage of him allegedly assaulting a journalist was not available.

The prosecution and the defence were trying to reach an agreement on a postponement date.

Mohloana allegedly hit journalist Chester Makana with a brick. A medical certificate explaining Makana's injuries was also not available.

Makana was assaulted last year outside a coffee shop in Polokwane. At the time, he was investigating claims that fake voting cards were being produced at the shop for some delegates to the provincial ANC Youth League's elective conference taking place at the University of Limpopo.

Mohloana's lawyer Tumi Mokwena defended ANCYL president Julius Malema in his hate speech trial in the Equality Court.
