Former FS municipal manager gets bail

2012-05-21 21:46

Johannesburg - A former Moqhaka municipal manager accused of money laundering, fraud and theft was granted bail by the Kroonstad Magistrate's Court on Monday, the National Prosecuting Authority said.

Mokete Victor Duma was granted R5 000 bail and the case was postponed until 18 June, regional NPA spokesperson Phaladi Shuping said.

Duma allegedly took out a multi-million rand loan for a grader and a landfill compactor for the municipality in 2009, he said.

Even though the machines did not reach the municipality, it paid the bank monthly installments on its loan until Duma's successor brought the matter to the bank's attention and the contract was cancelled.

Duma left the municipality to work in the office of the Free State premier.
