Johannesburg - Four boys were rescued after being trapped in a drainage system in Kliptown, Soweto, on Wednesday afternoon, Johannesburg emergency management services said.
EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said the community had been alerted by children that the group of boys, aged between eight and 14, were trapped in the drain.
After searching the area, EMS located the boys and worked for an hour to free them. The boys were unharmed.
One of the boys told EMS that children normally played in the open drainage system.
"We appeal to the community not to let children play near the drains because it is dangerous," said Mulaudzi.
