Durban - Four people died in two separate murder-suicides in Durban at the weekend, police said on Monday.
Inspector Michael Read said both incidents took place on Saturday, within the space of three hours.
In the first incident at 10:00, a 21-year-old man had an argument with his 20-year-old girlfriend, Sisanda Majola, at their Berea Road flat.
"The man then pulled out a firearm and shot her twice in the head and once in the arm," said Read.
The man thereafter shot himself. The couple died at the scene.
Three hours later, police found the bodies of 50-year-old Janet Mckinnon and 62-year-old Melody Harwood-Mash at a flat in Clark Road, Umbilo.
"Mckinnon had been struck repeatedly on her head with a blunt object and Harwood-Mash had apparently taken an overdose of tablets," said Read.
Both were declared dead at the scene.
Read said two murder cases were being investigated and two inquests had been opened.
