Four guilty of 'lesbian' killing

Johannesburg - Four people were found guilty of the murder of lesbian Zoliswa Nkonyana in a judgment handed down in the Khayelitsha Magistrate's Court on Friday, SAFM reported.

Magistrate Raadiya Whaten said the testimony of two witnesses led to the conclusion that Lubabalo Ntlabathi, Sicelo Mase, Luyanda Londzi and Mbulelo Damba took part in the stoning and stabbing of Nkonyana in 2006 when she was 19.

The presence of the other three accused, Mfundo Kulani, Themba Dlephu and Sabelo Yekiso, at the murder was not enough to find them guilty of murder, said Whaten.

Some civil society groups believe Nkonyana was murdered because of her sexuality.

Two other people were acquitted earlier in the trial.

What's wrong News24? Doesn't the moderator like it if rapists are called savages?? I'll try again in the version you'll approve of. Here goes: The other three that got off should have been locked up as well. The mere fact that they were present and did nothing to defend this poor woman from the 'gentlemen' who were raping her speaks volumes.

not really... prison life it quite posh... these guys deserve to die by electric chair

      Allo Allo - 2011-10-07 16:02

Yeah Pragmitism, emotinonally I agree. But (as I am sure you know) we don't have the death sentence in this country. lets hope for a very hefty sentence with no parole. Justice will always be served in the long run.

Being lesbian, she was undermining the african agenda of multiplying.

      Allo Allo - 2011-10-07 15:53

Odinist, I know you are trying to be funny but your comment is insulting to the victim and "african". The people who killed this young lady where simply evil and chose to ignore their God given coscience of what is right and wrong.

      Forseti - 2011-10-07 17:10

This is true tragedy and a horrendous crime. A young woman's life wasted, I find no humor in this whatsoever. I think some people are really sick in the way they comment.

      Kagiso - 2011-10-07 19:00

excuse me, but just because someone doesn't live life up to your ''ideal african standards'' doesn't mean that their death is justified. lesbian or not, rape is rape.

Hand them over to the vigilante mobs. The best justice in this country.

  • braamc - 2011-10-07 18:01

At last. May they be naai^%d in jail

  • 2WhiteStars - 2011-10-07 18:58

This trial too so very, very, very long to conclude. It was postponed something like 25 times or more. Justice delayed is justice denied. I hope this finally gives some peace and closure to her family and friends. A d serves as a warning to these animals out there that rape is not to be tolerated in our society, and neither is homophobia.
