2012-04-14 11:54

Johannesburg - Four people were injured when their hot air balloon hit power cables on Nooitgedacht wine estate outside Stellenbosch on Saturday, paramedics said.

The balloon left Joostenbergvlakte and, while over the nearby wine estate, was pushed into the overhead cables by a strong wind, Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said.

The basket fell to the ground, injuring four of the six occupants.

A critically injured woman was airlifted to a private hospital in Stellenbosch. The other injured were taken to various hospitals in the area.

Who goes up in a balloon in this weather? Surely he is not a first time pilot and knew the area well? Sincerely hope the injured recover fully.

I understand there was three in the balloon. News 24 please make sure of your facts. The single largest issue with most balloon related accidents is that the people reporting on this does not have a clue on what is going on. They report on 3rd rated info that is not tested.
