Johannesburg - The City of Tshwane has cancelled Fountain Valley as one of the park and ride venues for the public going to view the body of Nelson Mandela at the Union Buildings, the city said on Wednesday.

"Owing to some of the challenges experienced today, the City of Tshwane has decided to cancel Fountains Valley with immediate effect," said spokesperson Selby Bokaba.

The LC De Villiers Sports Facility in Hatfield and the Tshwane Events Centre would be the only facilities used where the public would be shuttled to the Union Buildings from 08:00 on Thursday to Friday.

"Members of the public are urged to make use of these services as access to view the body will be restricted to people in city buses only."

The daily procession left 1 Military Hospital in Thaba Tshwane at 07:00 to the Union Buildings.

Bokaba had said certain roads would be closed to allow the procession to the Union Buildings.

The Old Pretoria Road, Kgosi Mampuru Street (former Potgieter Street) and Madiba Street (former Vermeulen Street) towards the Union building will be closed from Wednesday to Friday between 05:00 and 09:00.

"The public should note that all the roads adjacent to the Union Buildings will be closed to traffic during the three-day period."

The Jan Smuts Drive (Old Johannesburg Road) will be closed from the off-ramp to Eufees Road and the N14 freeway from Eufees Road.
