Free State laser case postponed

2012-02-21 14:31

Bloemfontein - Two men appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Tuesday for allegedly pointing a green laser beam at helicopters taking off from two Bloemfontein airports.

The case against Theunis le Grange, 45, and Albertus Niewoudt, 21, was postponed to April 3 for a decision on the matter by the Free State director of public prosecutions.

The men were out on bail of R500 each. The case against a third accused, a 14-year-old boy, had been withdrawn. He had been referred for counselling by social workers.

The two men face a charge of jeopardising the safety of aircraft passengers in terms of aviation laws.

The three were arrested for pointing a laser at helicopters taking off from Bloemfontein Airport and Bloemspruit Air Force base.

Police said earlier that the lasers could blind or disorientate pilots, which could result in aircraft crashing.

All three of them should have a laser pointed in their eyes till they go blind and then they should be executed. Why we must pay our taxes for this????

Why would you do something like that? The kid and 21 year old can argue "young, dum, etc" but the 45 year old should know better.

The real question is what is a 45 yo doing playing around with a 21 yo.
