Man arrested for 'execution-style' murders
Johannesburg - A man will appear in the Tweespruit Magistrate's Court on Tuesday in connection with the murder of an Ethiopian businessman and his assistant, Free State police said.
Sergeant Martin Xuma said on Monday the man allegedly shot dead Sansu Jasin and Lefa Leeuw.
Jasin, 25, was about to travel to Thaba Nchu with Leeuw at about 22:00 on Friday when the man appeared and asked for a lift.
"He shot Jasin once in the neck while they were travelling in his bakkie, causing him to lose control of the vehicle that veered off the road," Xuma said.
After Jasin stopped the car, Leeuw got out and ran away, but the 27-year-old man gave chase and shot him in the back of his head. Both victims died on the scene.
Xuma said police arrested the gunman shortly afterwards, and confiscated a pistol.
"He emerged from the bushes and told the police the two were shot by an unknown man who ran away," he said.
