Free State nurse to be prosecuted
Bloemfontein - The State has decided to prosecute a Free State male nurse who allegedly raped a terminally ill cancer patient in a Bloemfontein hospital last year.
The 33-year-old nurse appeared in the Bloemfontein Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, but his trial was postponed for a date in the High Court on March 6
The nurse was arrested after a 50-year-old cancer patient alleged that she was raped during a night shift at the National Hospital.
The sick woman's husband told police the attack happened on October 15 last year. The patient, who has since died, could not identify the female accomplice who allegedly helped the man.
According to the patient, a woman nurse held her down while a male nurse raped her.
At the previous hearing, the court heard that the investigation into the incident was completed and that the results of forensic tests had been received.
The man is out on bail.
