Bloemfontein - Two men and two boys accused of raping two elderly Free State sisters appeared in the Kestell Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

Free State police spokesperson Mmako Mophiring said the two boys, aged 16 and 17, were released into the custody of their guardians.

"They were released on a warning to be at the court at the next appearance, on 26 June," said Mophiring.

The two men, aged 21 and 22, who applied for bail on Wednesday, would remain in custody until judgment on their bail applications on 29 May.

The two sisters, aged 73 and 69, were raped in their home at the end of April.

Their attackers broke into their home at night and demanded money and weapons.

When the women told the men they had no money or weapons, the robbers allegedly raped them.

The women were admitted to hospital.
