Free State robber kills himself

2012-05-15 21:13

Johannesburg - A Free State robber and suspected murderer has shot himself dead in Botshabelo, just as he was about to be arrested, police said on Tuesday.

Constable Nomene Mokoale said police arrived at a house in G-section after a tip-off about the men who shot dead a shop owner in a robbery on Monday.

The four men had entered a shop in Botshabelo J-section, and demanded cash at gunpoint.

When the police arrived at the house, they arrested two men, said Mokoale. The other two were buying alcohol at a local shebeen. Police followed them, he said.

"Upon noticing that the police were after them, one of the men, a 30-year-old, shot himself and died on the scene. The other one fled."

The arrested men would appear in the Botshabelo's Magistrate Court on Thursday on charges of robbery and murder.

Seems to be happening often. I'd like to see the stats for criminals committing suicide just before being arrested.... Perhaps 'assisted' suicide. Still, one less to worry about.

But let's not rule out stupidity, it is also the cause of his death.

Let's give that Free State robber a round of applause, he is so unselfish! taking his own life to spare us tax payers the financial burden of having to pay for his 5 star hotel behind bars. We need more courteous robbers.

I wouldn't mind reading statistics saying \criminal suicides is up by 80%\

      Schmee - 2012-05-16 08:52

If I read "criminal suicides up by 80%" I would be seriously wondering how many of them were guilty.

  • Gladstone - 2012-05-15 22:26

Gov. take note. Build a memorial stone for this robber with the full story on it. The heading must be something like "A True example of a Hero Robber that can be followed by generation of robbers to come" Seeing that gov. want now to build a couple of memorials I though of suggesting one for this robber. LOL!

  • louis.langenhoven - 2012-05-16 09:50

why does news24 start an article with "Johannesburg" if the whole happening took place in Botshabelo FS- did you drive from JBurg to get the info? I find it plain stupid and it happens quite often. What is the purpose of that Introduction if not to indicate more or less where the incident happened. If a person in Los Angeles murder someone are you also going to start with JoeBurg?

  • Christopher - 2012-05-17 10:22

Stupid, nothing would have happened to him if he went through the justice system.

  • schalkwbu31ger - 2012-05-18 10:03

Just wish the criminals would shoot themselves before doing the crime instead of afterwards
