Fugitive arrested after skipping bail

2012-04-11 07:50
Durban - A man accused of skipping bail in a string of drug and robbery related cases was arrested in Durban on Tuesday, KwaZulu-Natal police said.

The provincial crime intelligence unit acted on a tip-off to find John Okwudiri Eluke, 39, Colonel Jay Naicker said.

Eluke was arrested last year for dealing in cocaine valued at R300 000, but failed to return to the Greytown Magistrate's Court after being granted bail. He was arrested in the company of another man who had R4 000 worth of cocaine on him.

"Further police investigation around John has established that he is wanted on a robbery and several drug dealing cases in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Pietermaritzburg and Durban," Naicker said.

Eluke was expected to appear in the Greytown Magistrate's Court on Wednesday. The police would oppose bail in light of his failure to adhere to his previous bail conditions.

The other man would appear in the Durban Magistrate's Court soon.
