Johannesburg - A Tshwane metro police officer who was shot and killed during a robbery at the Wonderpark shopping complex will be buried on Wednesday.

Sergeant Piet van Bekkum would be given a police funeral and his name would be inscribed on the Wall of Remembrance at the metro police headquarters, said metro police spokesperson Lekgantshi Tleane.

Von Bekkum, 51, was shot at point-blank range after a robbery at the NWJ jewellery shop last Thursday.

Tleane said a service would be held at the Dutch Reformed Church on the corner of Berglaan and Heinrich streets in Wonderpark at 10:00. The procession will then leave to the Heather Dale Cemetery in Brits where he will be buried.
